Numb it out
Ok, so we won’t lie, microneedling can be a touch uncomfortable. The sensation is very similar to getting a tattoo if that’s something you’ve experienced before. Most of our clients rate the pain level at around a 3 - 5 out of 10. To help make the process easier we apply a numbing cream to your face before your treatment and let it sit for a few minutes.
The ‘PRP’ part
Here’s where the PRP part of the facial comes in. While we wait for that life saving numbing cream to kick in, we’ll draw your blood. The sample then gets put into a centrifuge where it spins around and around very quickly in order to separate your platelet rich plasma (PRP). We refer to this stuff as liquid gold because it’s full of great stuff like growth factors that help your skin heal and reduces the redness that is typically seen after a microneedling treatment.
Microneedling but even better
Once your liquid gold is ready to go, we’ll remove the numbing cream from your face and thoroughly disinfect your skin. Your PRP will be applied topically to your skin and then it’s time for the SkinPen to work it’s magic! The very fine needles on the SkinPen cause controlled micro-injuries that stimulate your skin’s natural healing process which kicks things like collagen production into high drive. The result is effective remodelling of scar tissue plus, healing of acne scars, improvement of skin texture and a boost in collagen and elastin production. There are numerous studies that have been published in peer-reviewed journals to back both the safety and efficacy of the SkinPen. It is also Health Canada and FDA approved.
Cool off
Once the microneedling is complete, we’ll apply a cooling serum to your skin to help with any redness or irritation. You might feel like you have a bit of a sunburn for a day or two but one of the reasons we love this treatment so much is because the PRP helps reduce the post-treatment downtime. Sit back, relax, follow our post-care instructions and wait for your glow to peak. This typically happens around 4 - 6 weeks. For best results, we highly recommend visiting us for your microneedling treatments every 6 weeks or seasonally.
