Everything You Need to Know About Microneedling
What exactly is microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a device called a SkinPen. The very fine needles on the SkinPen cause controlled micro-injuries that stimulate your skin’s natural healing process. The result is effective remodelling of scar tissue plus, a boost in collagen and elastin production. There are numerous studies that have been published in peer-reviewed journals to back both the safety and efficacy of the SkinPen. It is also Health Canada and FDA approved.
What skin concerns does microneedling treat?
We almost always get DMs from our clients a few weeks after their microneedling treatment. They’re in total disbelief at the results. What we love about microneedling is that it treats so many different skin conditions including but not limited to large pores, fine lines, scar tissue, hyperpigmentation.
Does it hurt?
We’re not going to lie, this doesn’t exactly feel nice. But, the process is only slightly uncomfortable. If you can handle a Brazilian this is a walk in the park. Plus, we kick off the treatment with a nice numbing cream to help make you comfortable.
What can I expect post-microneedling?
After your treatment, your skin will likely be a little bit red and inflamed. Don’t worry - this is normal. In fact, we find that the more red your skin is after your treatment, the better your results will be. It’s important to take some precautions for the first few days to make sure your skin heals and stays protected. You can read more about aftercare here.
During the first two weeks, you will notice your skin flaking off revealing smoother complexion. You might also notice your skin purging (breaking out) a little bit more than usual. Again, this is normal.
From weeks 3 - 6, all we’re going to say is take some selfies and get ready to modestly receive endless compliments about your natural glow, plump, smooth, and even skin tone. You’re welcome ;)
How does microneedling compare to laser treatments? Is it safe for my skin tone?
There are certain specific conditions that may be better treated by laser. However with heat-based treatment there is more downtime and risk, not to mention they are not safe for all skin tones.
Microneedling helps with many skin conditions and truly helps your own body regenerate healthy and glowing skin. Although it is considered a universally safe procedure, there are certain contraindications and we do require a full consultation before starting a microneedling regimen with us.
What should I do to prepare for my appointment? How do I take care of my skin after my microneedling appointment?
If you’re investing in professional skin treatments it’s definitely important to ensure that you’re taking care of your skin before, after and in-between appointments. This will help you get the best results.
